The term exserted (also considered excluded) refers to the lingula projecting beyond the vasiform orifice.  Refer to the glossary for definition. 

Caveat:  species of both subfamilies in the pupal stage have lingula exserted or inserted (also considered included).  The lingula may also be obscured by the operculum.
